The Division of Permits Administration provides a first contact for application and information for all varieties of construction, engineering, planning and inspection services for projects to be built in Charles County.
The types of projects include residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional projects.
The Mission of the Permits Administration Division is to protect the health and safety of the citizenry by ensuring the quality and integrity of the County's housing stock; to promote economic development by maintaining the quality of commercial construction; and to enforce the laws and codes established to further these goals.
The Charles County Permits Administration Division affirms that the most appropriate manner in which to fulfill its mission is through partnership with the building community, whether private homeowners, commercial developers, or design professionals.
The duties of the Permits Administration Division include the examination of plans to see that they comply with the requirements of the Zoning Ordinance and the Building Code. Review and interpretation of these codes are the responsibility of this Division.
The customer service center is the first section of the Division most people see and is a key post of the division. At this point applications for development, infrastructure, and all permits for any new building, remodeling or repair are initiated. From here, permit applications are routed through the various other affected sections including the Planning Office and Development and Capital Services. This process plays a key role in the County's development because permit approvals are necessary before any project can be started.
