- November 2004 announcement from Maryland Department of Environment (MDE) and Department of Natural Resources(DNR) that the Port Tobacco River Watershed is selected for the WRAS grant program
· Visit the DNR website for a summary of the WRAS program, frequently asked questions, and the 25 selected WRAS watersheds in Maryland.
- MDE released three documents in 2006 summarizing existing conditions in the watershed, these are:
- Port Tobacco River WRAS Steering Committee held their first meeting March 22, 2006.
- Center for Watershed Protection performed field work in three selected subwatersheds June and July 2006. The Charles County Planning Division sent a letter to landowners requesting permission to walk the streams on their property.
- Port Tobacco River WRAS Steering Committee second meeting held September 18, 2006, 2:00-3:30 p.m.
- Port Tobacco River WRAS Visioning Workshop was held September 18, 2006, 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the County Commissioner Meeting Room at the Charles County Government Building, 200 Baltimore Street, La Plata, MD 20646.
- Port Tobacco River WRAS Steering Committee meeting held December 7, 2006 2:00-3:30 p.m. in the Charles County Government Building.
- Port Tobacco River WRAS Stakeholder Workshop was held December 7, 2006, 6:00-7:30p.m. in the Charles County Commissioner Meeting Room at the Charles County Government Building, 200 Baltimore Street, La Plata, MD 20646
- The PLANNING COMMISSION OF CHARLES COUNTY held a public meeting February 12, 2007, at 7:00 p.m. in the County Commissioner Meeting Room at the Charles County Government Building, to receive a briefing and take public comment on the Draft Port Tobacco River WRAS, dated January 10, 2007. The record was held open until March 12, 2007.
A subsequent PLANNING COMMISSION work session on the Draft Port Tobacco River WRAS was conducted March 19, 2007, at 7:00 p.m. in the County Commissioner Meeting Room to discuss comments. The PLANNING COMMISSION voted unanimously to recommend approval to the CHARLES COUNTY COMMISSIONERS.

TheCOUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF CHARLES COUNTY held a public hearing June 20, 2007 at which time public comment was heard on the draft Port Tobacco River WRAS. Three people testified at the hearing in support of the WRAS. The COUNTY COMMISSIONERS voted to approved the WRAS for implementation.
- The COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF CHARLES COUNTY scheduled a public hearing for Wednesday, June 20, 2007, 4:30 p.m. in the County Commissioner Meeting Room at the Charles County Government Building. Stakeholders are encouraged to take this opportunity to comment directly to the COUNTY COMMISSIONERS on the Draft Port Tobacco River WRAS.
