Scholarships under this section shall be awarded to persons:
- Who are residents of Charles County;
- Who apply to the Charles County Commissioners, according to the process and deadlines outlined in this brochure;
- Whose applications are reviewed and favorably recommended by a Scholarship Committee appointed by the County Commissioners;
- Who are selected by the County Commissioners after such review and recommendation by the Scholarship Committee on the basis of demonstrated aptitude, interest and ability, financial need, and cumulative grade point average;
- Who are attending a college or university in Maryland, Virginia or the District of Columbia. Consideration will be given for students taking online programs and enrolled in the clinical portion of their studies. High School students who are enrolled in the RNStat Program may also be considered.
- Who furnish surety bonds to the Charles County Commissioners, in such amount and with such surety as the Commissioners may determine.
- Who are enrolled in one of the following programs: Imaging Technicians (including Xray, MRI and Nuclear Medicine Technicians), Physical Therapists, Physical Therapist Assistants, Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, Medical Coding Specialists, Social Workers, Nurses, Dental Technicians, Speech Therapists, etc.
The condition of the bonds shall be that the applicant, provided they complete the course of study for which the scholarship is awarded, practices in their field in Charles County for a period not less than two years.
