Independent Living

Independent living encompasses several different types of housing options which may include:

  • Remaining in your own home.
  • Purchasing a small cottage or condominium in a senior community or retirement village.
  • Senior Apartments for persons with low to moderate income.
  • Congregate or shared senior apartments for persons with low to moderate income
  • Market Rate (non-subsidized) apartments in Senior Living Communities

In order to maintain independence, individuals may choose to purchase support services either in-home or within community settings. Examples include:

In-Home Services

  • Home-delivered meals
  • Minor home modifications
  • Chore and shopping services
  • Personal care services
  • An emergency response system
  • Friendly visitors
  • Adult Day Programs (Senior Center Plus or Medical Adult Day Care)

Community Programs

  • Senior Centers
  • Affordable transportation
  • Senior information, referral, and assistance
