The Aging & Community Centers Division maintains a complete list of licensed assisted living programs (ALPs) in Charles County and can provide seniors and their families with helpful tips in selecting an ALP. Assisted living is typically designed to provide housing and supportive services for frail seniors who need daily assistance and, therefore, are at risk of nursing home placement.

Programs are designed to provide access and coordination of services to frail, health-impaired elderly in an effort to allow them to remain in their homes. Financial assistance may be available to eligible clients for services such as in-home care (bathing, light housekeeping, meal preparation), medications, personal care supplies, and home monitoring.

As a participating agency in the National Family Caregivers Support Program, the Aging Division offers comprehensive services and support to family members who are caring for an elderly adult relative. Information & Assistance, Respite, Caregiver Training, Support Groups, and Supplemental Services are included in this program. Support Groups meet the last Wednesday of each month at 2:00 P.M., at the Richard R. Clark Senior Center in La Plata, Maryland.

The Medicaid Waiver is a state medical assistance program that may provide financial assistance for community-based care to persons who would otherwise require a nursing home. Qualified individuals must meet both medical and financial criteria to receive a waiver. Waivers can be used for either assisted living or in-home care.
