Assisted Living
For persons requiring assistance with activities of daily living, assisted living provides housing with on-site, 24-hour supervision. Services include:
- Three meals per day plus snacks Medication management Laundry and housekeeping services Assistance with personal care such as dressing, bathing, and incontinence care.
- Socialization
Assisted Living facilities provide a homelike setting and range from single family homes with 1-8 residents, to larger facilities with over 100 beds. Residents usually remain under the care of their personal physician for routine health care. Medical appointment transportation may or may not be included in the monthly fee.
Most residents pay privately for assisted living. Facility fees vary depending on the level of need of the residentthey may be all-inclusive, or a basic fee with additional charges for extra services. Consumers should review resident contracts thoroughly to determine which services are included in the monthly fees.
Medicaid Waiver for Older Adults
The Medicaid Waiver is a state medical assistance program that may provide financial assistance for community-based care to persons who would otherwise require a nursing home. Qualified individuals must meet both medical and financial criteria to receive a waiver. Waivers can be used for either assisted living or in-home care.
