Housing Choice Voucher Program

Housing Assistance Payment Program
The Housing Choice Voucher Program is designed to assist low-income persons afford decent, safe, and sanitary housing.

How to participate
The first step is to get on the waiting list. You can complete a preliminary application at the Department of Community Services.

Applicants must either bring or mail the application to:

How the Program Works
Department of Community Services will notify you when your name nears the top of the waiting list. you will be instruted at that time to attend a preparatory seminar to receive preliminary information and a program overview.

Voucher Issuance
When a voucher becomes available you will be scheduled for an enrollment interview with an Occupancy Specialist. The Occupancy Specialist will review family income eligibility to determine the portion, if any, that an applicant may have to contribute monthly for rent and utilities. Eligible families are issued a voucher which gives a family 60 days to locate suitable housing.
