Housing Choice Voucher Program
The Housing Choice Voucher Program is designed to help low-income persons afford decent, safe, and sanitary housing.
How to participate
The first step is to get on the waiting list. Preliminary application can be completed at the Housing Authority located at the Department of Community Services or the application may be mailed to:
Department of Community Services
Housing Authority
8190 Port Tobacco Road
Port Tobacco, MD 20677
How the Program Works
The Housing Authority will notify applicants when their name nears the top of the waiting list. Applicants will be instructed at that time to attend a preparatory seminar to receive preliminary information and a program overview.
Voucher Issuance
When a voucher becomes available applicants will be scheduled for an enrollment interview with an Occupancy Specialist. The Occupancy Specialist reviews household income eligibility to determine the portion, if any, that an applicant may have to contribute monthly for rent and utilities. Eligible persons are issued a voucher which gives them 60 days to locate suitable housing.
