Housing Quality Checklist
- All ground level windows and doors must have working locks.
- All windows and doors must seal properly on top, bottom and sides with no daylight visible.
- Windows must stay in the open position when tested.
- Window and door glass should be free of cracked, damaged or missing panes.
- Smoke detectors must be provided on each level and are they in proper operating condition.
- All bedrooms must have at least one egress window for fire escape.
- All appliances must work and be in safe condition.
- Floor coverings should be secured to floor and void of tears or loose and open seams.
- All plumbing fixtures must be functional with no leaks or signs of deterioration.
- Light fixtures need to provide sufficient light in rooms, stairways and halls.
- Stairways must be free from hazards. No loose, broken, or missing steps.
- All stairways must have handrails and safety rails and be properly secured and safe.
- The property must be free from infestation by mice or vermin.
- All electrical switches, outlets and light fixtures must operate properly and be free from hazards.
- Toilets must be secured to floor, free of leaks and in good operating condition.
- Stoves, ranges and ovens must be clean with no oil or grease residue.
- Range hoods need to be operational with the proper grease filter installed.
- All bathrooms must have an operable window or a ventilator fan.
- All interior and exterior surfaces should be absent of chipping and peeling paint.
- All trash and debris must be removed from the property.
- The property must be clean and in safe condition before it is occupied by the tenant.
