The Indoor Community Pools offer new and exciting programs for participants of all ages. Below is a few of the class and programs offered. Please contact the Aquatics office at Lackey at 301-743-2470 or 301-753-6003 or North Point at 301-934-7475 for dates and times of programs currently offered.
The following is a general list of the types of programs offered at the pools. For more information, please contact the pool location directly.
WSI Class
Interested in teaching swim lessons? This course is designed to train instructor candidates the skills needed to instruct and plan courses in the American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety program. Must attend all classes. Prerequisites: Must be age 16 on or before last day of class; successfully pass precourse written test and skills.
Lifeguard Class
This course is the American Red Cross Lifeguarding program designed to provide lifeguards with the knowledge and skills necessary to ensure the safety of patrons at aquatic facilities. The program includes the following components: Lifeguard Training, First Aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, and Preventing Disease Transmission. Both a written and practical exam will be given at the end of the course and American Red Cross certification cards will be issued to all students that successfully complete all components of the class. Must attend all classes. Prerequisites: Must be age 15 on or before last day of class; swim 500 yards continuously using 200 yd front crawl, 100 breaststroke, 200 your choice of either front crawl, breaststroke; able to retrieve a 10 lb object from 7-10 ft depth, return to the surface, swim 20 yd back to the starting point with object.
Water Aerobics
Water aerobics classes use both shallow and deep end water to encourage continuous movement. Low impact and include both cardiovascular and muscle toning exercises. Open to all ages. Three types of classes offered: Deep Water, Cardio/Toning, and Combo Class.
Friday Night Fun Program
Bring the whole family to the indoor pools for a Friday Night filled with fun in the pool. Various dates to choose from.
Youth Swim League
The Charles County Youth Swim League provides a basic introduction to competitive swimming while maintaining a fun, positive, and safe atmosphere. This community-based recreational league will focus on improving individual swimming skills while gaining valuable experience in sportsmanship, teamwork, and the promotion of fun, physical activities.
Youth Competitive Swim Clinic
This program is for swimmers who have a minimum of one season competitive swimming. It is designed to improve stroke mechanics and increase endurance in preseason training. Competitive strokes, starts, turns, and finishes will be covered.
