Division Receives 2004 Best Fixed Route Service Award
The Department of Community Services' Transportation Division/VanGO received the Transportation Association of Maryland's (TAM) 2004 Best Fixed Route Service Award, which is for VanGO's fixed route public bus system providing public transportation routes operating in Indian Head, Waldorf, La Plata, Nanjemoy, Charlotte Hall and Newburg. VanGO earned the award as recognition for the numerous partnerships with local human service providers to increase transportation options for clients; significant increase in ridership over the previous year; low accident rate; high level of training provided to transit operators, both required and non-required; a high level of customer service; and service expansions to increase transportation availability to customers.
TAM is a statewide professional organization committed to improving mobility for all of Maryland's citizens. TAM serves as a visible and effective advocate for transportation providers to funding and regulatory agencies as well as to the public.
The following comment was received by Margaret Cheseldine, Director of Community Services, from Ron Hartman, Executive Vice President of Yellow Transportation, "I just heard Charles County won the transit system award at TAM. Congratulations to you and Lisa and the rest of the staff. That's terrific. It makes us all feel like winners."
