Transfer Point Operations
All VanGO public transit routes are timed to connect with other routes to ensure that passengers have full access to all areas in the county that are served by the public transit system. Click here to view the new video for transfers and layovers.
The Nanjemoy, Indian Head, and Newburg routes meet with La Plata routes in La Plata and enable passenges to transfer at either the WalMart (La Plata). The Charlotte Hall Connector meets with a St. Charles East route at the CVS in Smallwood Village. All other routes meet at the 301/Smallwood Drive Park and Ride in Waldorf, where VanGO's main transfer operations occur, with eight routes interconnecting.
The routes are timed to arrive only minutes apart, starting with Business Loop B, which arrives at :40 after each hour during operating hours. After Blue B, St. Charles West (yellow) :49 and St. Charles East A (green), which arrive at :44 after each hour. Business Loop A :46 and La Plata A (red) arrive at :45 after each hour, with the St. Charles East B (green) :49 and Pinefield (grey) routes arriving at :46 after each hour.
As each bus arrives, all passengers are required to disembark. Passengers must wait at the pickup location, where shelters and benches are available. The vehicles then travel around the parking lot and "stage" along the roadway opposite the passenger pick-up locations. After all vehicles have arrived at he transfer point and are at the staging area, at the start of each hour, the vehicles - two or three at a time - make a pass around the parking lot, back to the transfer point pick-up location. As the vehicles arrive at the pick-up location, passengers board the appropriate vehicle to continue to their travel destination.
From the transfer point, both the St. Charles East B and the St. Charles West routes stop at the St. Charles Towne Center Mall before continuing onto their regular residential routes.
