Grants awarded to the County
Charles County Government actively pursues grant funding from a variety of federal, state, and foundation sources as part of a mixed-funding approach to support County programs and operations that serve the public. Funds from grants serve a wide variety of needs in the community, from providing necessary citizen services such as housing assistance and programs for seniors, to funding capital needs such as parks and public transportation.
In Fiscal Year 2007, the County expended $12,594,477 from 84 Federal grants, $10,173,039 from 82 State grants and $2,176,761 from 13 miscellaneous foundation and governmental assistance programs.

Grants awarded by the County
Charles County Government awards grants to non-profit and government agencies who provide services to Charles County residents. Funding for these requests is considered during the budget cycle, with applications due to the County in early January. The award process is initiated with the Application for Grants Awarded By the County Commissioners.
In addition to the funds awarded in conjunction with the budget cycle, funds may also be awarded to non-profit and government agencies, on an as needed basis, throughout the County’s fiscal year (July 1 through June 30), in amounts not to exceed $1,000. These requests for funding are also initiated with the Application for Grants Awarded By the County Commissioners. Grant agreements are not required as a condition of obtaining this funding; however, the County Commissioners, at their discretion, reserve the right to refer any request to staff and/or an advisory panel.
