Paramedic Eligibility List (Department of Emergency Services/Emergency Medical Services Division)

The Department of Emergency Services is seeking applicants for the Paramedic Eligibility List. This is an excellent opportunity for certified and experienced Paramedics.

Paramedic: Provide BLS and ALS interventions to persons on the scene of emergency and non-emergency situations, and provide transportation of persons to appropriate facilities in emergency vehicles. Provide direction, supervision, and assistance to others in general execution of EMS duties. Must have high school diploma or GED; minimum one year documented experience as an ALS provider; certification as a Nationally Registered EMT-Paramedic and/or licensed as a Maryland Paramedic by MIEMSS; certifications in ACLS, EVOC, Hazmat Awareness, and CPR. Applicants who are not Maryland certified EMS providers must obtain a valid Maryland certification within 30 days of employment. Employee is required to maintain certifications and licenses. Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain an acceptable driving record. Due to the implementation of a Fiscal Year 2010 Furlough Plan, all salaries are currently reduced by 5%. The normal base salary for this position is $45,790. The Fiscal Year 2010 salary is $43,500. Closing date: 2/12/10

Additional requirements for the Paramedic position:Ability to evaluate the condition of patients and administer proper BLS or ALS care, and to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Employees are subject to criminal record checks. Pre-employment medical exam and drug screen test are required of selected candidates. Employees will be subject to random drug screening throughout employment with the County. Rotational shift work required. Volunteer service in Charles County Fire & EMS may be limited or prohibited during the term of employment.

There will be no make-up dates. Qualified applicants will be notified of the time and location to take the written examination. Those who successfully pass the written examination must attend the physical agility test on April 10, 2010. Qualified applicants will be notified of the time and location.
