APPLICATIONS

Applications has responsibility for managing the software applications that are used to deliver services to county employees and its citizens. This section writes and maintains custom software for Charles County Government (CCG) on a variety of platforms, in a variety of languages. It also supports commercial software purchased by CCG, customizing it as needed.

Major systems supported by Applications include many different web applications that run on the county's internet and intranet sites, GIS applications, and an inter-departmental pavement management system. Additionally, the division supports the New World Systems software which encompasses financial, human resources, payroll, permits, taxes, asset tracking & utilities modules.

Applications assists CCG personnel in their use of the software. Staff members help with the transfer of data between software packages. They respond to a wide variety of requests for data files & reports from other government agencies and outside organizations. They also evaluate software for suitability for our users and compatibility with the County's computer network.

Most Digitally Advanced In Its Class For Seven Consecutive Years

Charles County has received the Center for Digital Government’s Nation’s Most Digitally Advanced County award for its size for seven consecutive years.

The county offers sophisticated e-services to citizens and businesses. The wireless infrastructure and capability initiated by Charles County’s Information Technology demonstrates its value to emergency preparedness.
