The Indoor Community Pools offer new and exciting programs for participants of all ages. Please contact the Aquatics office at Lackey at 301-743-2470 or 301-753-6003 or North Point at 301-934-7475 for dates and times of programs currently offered.
Water aerobics classes use both shallow and deep end water to encourage continuous movement. Low impact and include both cardiovascular and muscle toning exercises. Open to all ages.
Interested in teaching swim lessons? This course is designed to train instructor candidates (age 16+) the skills needed to instruct and plan courses in the American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety program.
This course is designed to provide lifeguards (age 15+) with the knowledge and skills necessary to ensure the safety of patrons at aquatic facilities. Both a written and practical exam will be given at the end of the course and American Red Cross certification cards will be issued to all students that successfully complete all components of the class.
Class specifically designed for children with physical, intellectual, or developmental disabilities who want to learn how to be safe in, on, and around the water. This class will work on water safety skills and basic swimming skills. Each class will include independent guided discovery time in the water with a parent or a responsible adult and instructor led group activities. A parent or responsible adult must accompany their child in the water. Open to age 5 and older.
Designed to teach basic fundamentals of swimming pool/spa operations. Topics will include basic water chemistry, filtration, circulation, safety, and risk management of aquatic facilities. This course meets the requirements for the State of Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene Swimming Pool and Spa Operator Certification. Participants must be 16 years or older and are required to pass a written exam to be eligible for certification.
