Outdoor Sports

Charles County Outdoor Sports Programs are organized and directed by the Parks & Recreation Division of the Department of Public Facilities. We offer leagues in the spring/summer and fall seasons for both the youth and adult sports enthusiast. Whether you enjoy a seat in the stands cheering on your favorite team or you actually step between the lines, we have the sports program for you!

Adult Co-Rec Softball

softballCo-Rec Softball is one of Charles County’s most popular sports programs! We offer both spring and fall leagues with numerous divisions that will allow your team to play in a program that is best suited for their skill level. Games are scheduled either on Friday nights or on Sundays during the daytime hours.

Typically our leagues play an 18 game schedule with the top four (4) teams qualifying for an end-of-season tournament. Awards are given to first and second place finishers for both regular season play and the tournament.

To be eligible, teams must submit a roster of between 15 and 20 players. All players must be at least 18 years of age or have graduated from high school.

Spring Registration: Late February - Late March
Fall Registration: Middle July - Middle August

Preregistration is required. League entry fees vary.

Men's Softball

softballMen’s Softball Leagues are offered by the Department of Public Facilities during both the spring and fall seasons. To be eligible, a player must be at least 18 years of age or have graduated from high school. Each team is limited to a roster size of between 15 and 20 players.

Program is scheduled in numerous divisions that will allow your team to play in the league best suited for their skill level. Each league accepts teams on a first come, first served basis. Awards are given to first and second place finishers of each league.

Independent Leagues

Although the Department of Public Facilities provides and maintains many of the athletic fields utilized by the independent leagues, the local associations conduct their own registration. Leagues begin registration in January of the current year.

Youth Baseball and Softball Programs

Charles County Little League Program - Md. District 7 Little League Associations are available to the youth of Charles County offering spring and fall baseball and softball programs. This program is open to boys and girls ages 5 to 18. Girl's age as of December 31st of the previous year and boy's age as of April 30th of the current year.

Charles County Youth League (CCYL)

youth baseballBased in La Plata, this program is available to all Charles County youth ages 5 to 19. CCYL is chartered with the local Ripken/Babe Ruth League and provides t-ball, machine pitch, baseball and softball experiences to players of all talent levels. This organization conducts their own registration beginning in January for the spring season.

Youth Soccer Program

The Waldorf Soccer Club offers a variety of soccer leagues for boys and girls 5 to 18 years of age. This club includes the Waldorf, St. Charles, Pinefield, Forest Park, and Bryantown Areas.

Youth Tackle Football & Cheerleading Program

tackleThe Youth Tackle Football and Cheerleading Program is comprised of seven (7) separate Associations: Hughesville Hurricanes, Indian Head Braves, La Plata Blue Knights, Southern Maryland Hawks Youth Association (Bryans Road area), St. Charles Bears, Waldorf Wildcats and Westlake Bulldogs.

cheer1Boys and girls 5-14 years old are eligible to compete in seven (7) distinct Weight Divisions: Ankle Biters, 75 lb, 85lb, 95 lb, 105 lb, 125 lb, and Unlimited. Junior and Senior Divisions are available in 75 lb and 85 lb weight divisions.

League play takes place during the fall season, with practices beginning in August and games beginning in September. Registration begins in June. Each Association conducts their own registrations (times and sites vary).

softballThe Women's Soccer League is offered by the Department of Public Facilities during both the spring and fall seasons. This league is semi-competitive in nature and is intended for players with different skill levels. We use a 7 on 7 league format and games are played on intermediate-size soccer fields. Games are scheduled on Sunday afternoons at Turkey Hill Park. Each team is limited to a roster size of between 10 to 15 players (players must be 18 years old or older).

Team registrations are accepted on a first come, first served basis. Awards are given to first and second place teams. Preregistration is required.
