Recycling
"Go Team Recycle!" is an environmental pilot program launched in Charles County this spring that encourages participants at Laurel Springs Park and the Capital Clubhouse to recycle their beverage containers. Sponsored by the Charles County Department of Public Facilities, the Maryland Beverage Association, and the Maryland Department of the Environment, the goal of "Go Team Recycle!" is to help educate our youth (and their parents) about the three R's - Reduce, Reuse & Recycle. We obviously want our children to play sports and be healthy; we also want to teach them the importance of conserving natural resources in order to have a healthier environment.
Funded through Charles County's annual environmental service fee, our residential recycling program consists of four transfer stations and seven oil & antifreeze drop-off centers. In addition to these facilities, curbside collection is provided to approximately 30,000 homes located in the more densely populated areas of the county. State mandated to recycle 15% of its waste stream, Charles County has achieved a 43% recycling rate and a 5% source reduction credit equaling a total waste reduction rate of 48%.
Recycling is now easier than ever!
