Department of Planning and Growth Management's Planning Division is responsible for administering all planning programs for the County. This includes both long and short term planning and for a variety of program areas including land use, the environment, and public facilities.
Long range programs focus on the development and adoption of a number of guidance documents. The primary document is the Charles County Comprehensive Plan. Others include the Water and Sewer Plan, Solid Waste Plan, Land Preservation and Recreation Plan, Zoning Ordinance, Subdivision Regulations, Forest Conservation Ordinance, and Critical Area Program.
The short term planning efforts of the division focus on the implementation of these various programs through the processing of requests, providing staff support to Boards, Commissions, and committees, and enforcing the adopted rules and regulations. We provide support to the County Commissioners and are the primary staff to both the Planning Commission and Board of Appeals. The division interacts with the public providing support, explanation, and assistance with various County programs.
