Welcome

The Charles County Department of Utilities is the division of Charles County Government that provides clean and safe drinking water and advanced treatment of wastewater for our citizens. We are responsible for meter reading, and the operation, maintenance, and compliance monitoring of all water and sewer facilities owned by the County Commissioners. This includes not only 160 wells, booster stations, storage tanks, pump stations, and wastewater treatment plants, but fire hydrants, water meters, manholes, and over 250 miles of sewer lines and more than 25,000 water connections.

A commitment to public safety and excellent customer service are our ultimate goals. We strive to provide this in the most cost effective and efficient way possible, and are able to accomplish this through the efforts of a team comprised of more than 120 persons, staffed under the leadership of:

Bill Shreve, Acting Director
Ed Gorham, Chief of Maintenance
Terry Matthews, Chief of Operations

All water and sewer billing inquiries should be directed to the Department of Fiscal & Administrative Services. Their Billing Office is located at the Charles County Government Building.
